Google has announced that it will shut down the Google Podcasts app in 2024 to shift streaming listeners to YouTube Music.
According to the technology website, Google’s announcement is part of Google’s broader strategy to increase podcast offerings. Earlier this year, Google announced support for YouTube Music in the United States, which was said to be available by the end of the year. The offer will be rolled out globally.
Google says that through the podcast experience on YouTube Music, Google intends to increase its investment in the future and improve audio and video features for podcast users.
Google plans to provide migration tools for users to make the transition easier, but these migration tools will be rolled out in the coming months and weeks.
Users can also add podcast RSS feeds to their YouTube Music library, including shows not currently carried by YouTube.
It should be noted that while introducing this service on Android in 2018, Google provided a free podcast library to users, 2 years later Google introduced it on iOS.
