Social media network X (Twitter’s new name) ended general user access to TweetDeck in August.
TweetDeck, now named XPro, is only accessible to XBlue (the new name for Twitter Blue) users, meaning a monthly fee is paid.
But now the company’s owner, Elon Musk, has hinted that all users will be able to access X for a fee.
Elon Musk has said during the conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on X that chatbots can be stopped only with a payment system.
He said that we are moving towards making the use of the system subject to a nominal monthly fee.
Elon Musk hasn’t elaborated further on the matter, so it’s hard to say whether this was just a phrase from him during the conversation or a hint at a concrete plan, which is yet to be announced.
However, he said, “We are considering reducing the monthly fee as we believe this is the only way to avoid the army of bots.”
Right now X is free to use and it is the user’s choice whether or not it becomes part of a subscription plan.
If its use is subject to a monthly fee, a large number of users may abandon it, which will also significantly reduce the company’s advertising revenue.
Elon Musk while talking to the Israeli Prime Minister said that the number of monthly users of X has reached 550 million.
He said that 10 to 20 crore posts are made daily on this social media platform by users.
Keep in mind that after buying Twitter in October 2022, this social media network has made several changes.
To make the company profitable, Elon Musk laid off thousands of employees while making many features, including BlueTick, subject to a monthly subscription.
X then announced in July 2023 that only verified accounts would have access to X Pro from August.
